This project will provide an overview of mining leases and plans in terms of footprint and opportunities for forestry development. It aims to describe what information, experiences and knowledge are available regarding mine rehabilitation, and outline gaps and needs for further research. It will describe the extent of mine leases and exploration licences to quantify area available for rehabilitation now and in the foreseeable future.
Scope includes summarising experiences in suitable methods (ground preparation, management regimes, etc.) and species where available. In addition, the regulatory framework regarding access to land, Indigenous communities’ right to control the use of land post-mining and mining lease agreements are discussed.
